Prime Inshore Action for Redfish, Trout & Flounder in Galveston Bays
Galveston Bay - Chambers, TX
Inshore fishing around Galveston has been heating up this month, with a solid mix of species keeping rods bent and coolers full. Warmer water temps and steady tides have pushed baitfish into the bays, drawing in redfish, speckled trout, flounder, and even the occasional black drum.
What's Biting Redfish action has been strong along the shorelines and marsh edges, especially on the outgoing tide. Anglers using live shrimp under popping corks or soft plastics are reporting consistent hookups, with slot-sized reds being the norm. Speckled trout are showing up in good numbers over grass flats and shell bottoms in West Bay, with early mornings producing the best bites on topwater lures and paddle tails.
Flounder are staging near drains and sandy points, hitting gulp baits and mud minnows with solid frequency. We're seeing more keeper flounder showing up as we move into summer patterns. Bonus catches of sheepshead and black drum are still coming in near rock groins and channel edges, especially for those using fresh dead shrimp.
Conditions & Tips Water clarity has been fair to good depending on wind direction, with east winds keeping East Bay a little stirred up. Tidal movement has been key—targeting moving water around points, drains, and grass lines is paying off. Early morning and late afternoon continue to offer the best action, especially before the midday sun heats things up.
Now’s a great time to book an inshore trip and take advantage of the active bite before summer crowds pick up. Whether you're fishing from shore, kayak, or with a local charter, Galveston's bays are delivering plenty of action for anglers of all skill levels.
